Ever since
Hitler failed to destroy St Paul's during the blitz in the second
World War, the cathedral has held a special affection in the
hearts of real Londoners. The abbey itself was rebuilt by Sir
Christopher Wren after the Great Fire of 1666.
St Paul's
has been the setting for many great events in British history
including the funerals of Lord Nelson and Winston Churchill as
well as the wedding of Prince Charles and Lady Diana.
Any visit to
the cathedral must include a climb to the top of the dome via a
long spiral staircase, the view from the top will stay with you
for ever. It is also well worth well trying to see the cathedral
at night lit up by floodlights-magnificent. |
